Fans hoping to watch Giovani Dos Santos in action with Club América in Wednesday’s Campeones Cup clash against Atlanta United will have to settle for a possible appearance off the bench from the former LA Galaxy man.

Head coach Miguel Herrera announced his Starting XI a day before the the winner-take-all match at Mercedes-Benz Arena, and Dos Santos will be among the substitutes after el “Piojo” gave the nod in attack to Henry Martin.

“Tomorrow we’ll start with Óscar; Paul, Bruno, Vargas, Sánchez; Córdova, Guido; Renato, Roger, Ibargüen y Henry”, Herrera told the media during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

As for the game itself, the former El Tri boss made it clear that he knows what to expect from Atlanta United despite not being an expert on Frank de Boer’s side.

“Today with globalization you can see all the games and know everything that’s going on with your opponent”, Piojo said. “You do a quick analysis, but, as we’ve said, it’s a tournament with a cup up for grabs and we’ll go out and try to win it.”

As much as Herrera respects the current MLS champion, he’s adamant that America are obligated to win every tournament they take part in.

“We know it’s not going to be easy but they (Atlanta) look at us as a very tough opponent.”
