With the Leagues Cup 2023 knockout rounds now underway, Thursday’s action sees no less than twelve teams in action, with six spots in the tournament’s Round of 16 on the line.
While twelve LIGA MX clubs have qualified to the next round of this summer’s tournament, only one of the Round of 32 games features two teams from Mexico. That match will be kicking off tonight, as **Pumas** take on **Club Querétaro**.
The winner will go on to face the team that comes out on top in the fixture between Atlas FC and the New England Revolution, which will also be played on Thursday evening.
Club Querétaro sealed their spot in the knockouts after recovering from a 5-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Union last week, as they got the better of a domestic opponent in Club Tijuana by a slender 1-0 margin. The result means they finished as runners-up in the East 1 group.
Meanwhile, Pumas claimed top spot in East 2 after a convincing 3-0 victory over D.C. United. In their opening match, the Mexico City-based side came back from 2-0 down in the final minutes to grab a draw against C.F. Montréal, although they would later lose in the penalty shoot-out.
While Querétaro won the teams’ last match-up 1-0 during their Clausura 2023 campaign back in April, Pumas had come out on top in the previous two encounters, 3-1 and 4-1 respectively. Can they get back to winning ways against their LIGA MX rivals.
Kick-off time and where to watch Pumas vs. Club Querétaro:
The match-up between the two LIGA MX sides will take place on August 2 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., kicking off at 8pm ET (6pm in Mexico City). The game will be broadcast in both the United States and Mexico on Apple TV - MLS Season Pass.
