FC Dallas had a good night on Wednesday, managing to comfortably beat a 10-man Necaxa side in Leagues Cup 2023 by three goals to none. Sebastien Lleget opened the scoring on the 24th minute, before Eugene Ansah added a second just past the hour mark.
On the 72nd minute, USMNT international Jésus Ferreira was played through on goal and slotted away Dallas's third goal of the evening to seal the result for the MLS side. Ferreira then celebrated his goal by lifting his shirt to reveal a heartfelt message: "A piece of my heart lives in Gabbana."
It was a dedication to his much loved dog, Gabbana, who died whilst the the forward was away on Gold Cup duty for the United States. Ferreira was the top goal scorer at the 2023 Gold Cup with seven goals to his name, but the news of the death of his beloved companion put a dampener on what was a generally positive experience away on international duty.
Ferreira is however in good form for Dallas, scoring his 11th goal in all competitions with his one-on-one strike against Necaxa. Dallas have qualified to the next round of* Leagues Cup 2023* currently sitting top of group **South 4** with four points.
