Looking ahead to **FC Dallas**’ **Leagues Cup 2023** clash against **Inter Miami CF** tonight, the Texas side’s president Dan Hunt spoke about the Round of 16 clash between the two MLS sides. In particular, he heaped praise on Lionel Messi in the wake of the Argentine’s arrival in North American soccer.
In an interview at the Bloomberg offices, Hunt explained that the forward’s signing is “the biggest blow in the history of the league”. He went on to add: “Sometimes in life you need these moments. We needed that moment from David Beckham, to really push the league forward."
Hunt will be able to see La Pulga’s talent in person, as well as the “Messimania” that’ll be gripping Texas when his team welcomes Inter Miami CF at Toyota Stadium. It’s an even he has no intention of missing out on: “It’s like watching Michael Jordan”.
He then added: “You're looking at one of the two greatest players of all time in that experience. So yeah, this is a great moment for FC Dallas.”
Dan Hunt is co-owner of FC Dallas, alongside his older brother Clark. The two are also co-owners of the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL, along with their two other siblings, Sharron and Lamar Jr.. Their father, Lamar Hunt, founded the American Football League, which would then fuse with the NFL. The Hunt family are also part-owners and founding investors of the Chicago Bulls in the NBA.
Dallas will also be one of the 16 host cities at the 2026 World Cup, and are bidding to host the tournament’s final at AT&T Stadium in Arlington - a decision will be known at the end of 2023.
According to Hunt in that same interview, Dallas would be in a good position to host a World Cup final given their proximity to a big international airport, and the potential to host the game in a next-generation stadium.
