Two weeks ago New York City FC announced the signing of a new forward, Algerian National Youth Team player Mounsef Bakrar.

“I am thrilled to be joining New York City,” Bakrar said in his opening statement. “It’s a Club that plays exciting attacking football that suits my style of play.”

So far, so good for the new signee.

In his first ever start for NYCFC, Bakrar opened his scoring tally with an impressive goal.

"He was really good for a guy that spent two days with the team," head coach Nick Cushing told club media.

At the end of the first half, Bakrar’s teammate Santi Rodriguez curled a shot from the top of the box, around the goalkeeper, and into the far right post. The ball deflected back into the box toward Bakrar, who waited for the ball to bounce in front of him and then smashed a shot off the half volley and into the top of the net.

"I'm really enthused by his energy and his aggression and his desire to score goals,” Cushing said. “He's fitted into the team like a guy who has been here ten years. Like everyone in the locker room, we're working with him to get the real potential out.”
