The round of 16 matchups for Leagues Cup 2023 were set last Friday and the Clásico Regio was confirmed. CF Monterrey and Club Tigres will face each other again after squaring off in the semifinal of the LIGA MX Clausura playoffs. Tigres won that matchup.

After the matchup was confirmed, Rayados player Omar Govea spoke to media about this matchup against an old rival in a new international tournament,

The midfielder said that CF Monterrey will go out looking for a win right out of the gate due to head coach Fernando Ortiz’s style of play and said the team is looking for revenge for what happened at the end of May this year.

"The truth is that the team is happy that we got Tigres, soccer gives revenge and it was presented to us soon," he said

He then talked about how the club will play going into the match: “We are going to go out looking for the result, to try to control the game with our style of play, I think we have the conditions. You have to go out and win. These matches have to be won yes or yes”.

CF Monterrey and Club Tigres will meet next Tuesday, August 8 at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. The match is scheduled to take place at 8:00 p.m. from Mexico City and 22 hrs. ET.
