Friday night’s Leagues Cup 2023 action saw **Inter Miami CF** convincingly beat **Charlotte FC** 4-0 to seal their spot in the competition’s final four. At the end of the game, veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets explained that the first few minutes were crucial in deciding the game, and left no room for doubt regarding the team’s objective: “We’re going to be feeling better and better with each game, and personally I really want to keep going - we’re in the semi-finals, hopefully we can go all the way.”

The former Barcelona midfielder analyzed his team’s quarter-final clash: “The early goal made us stronger. There were moments of the game where it was end-to-end, which gave them some opportunities. But in the second half we came out stronger, and by the time we scored the third goal the result was wrapped up.”

He went on: “We knew that they were good at pressing high up, but we were surprised because they weren’t as aggressive against us. We did well to pick out the spaces and get those first two goals to go ahead.”

For Busquets, one of the aspects the team needs to improve in is in defense, given that they shipped 4 against FC Dallas in the last 16: “We know that if we want to keep advancing, the key is to not concede goals. Letting in four goals like in the previous game is too much. Today we managed to keep a clean sheet, we were solid at the back. It’s true that they had the ball a lot, but we’re a team that can do damage on the counter.”

The midfielder also spoke of his satisfaction after his first few matches in his new team: “I came here with desire and a mindset geared towards changing the course of Miami’s season, and we’re doing just that. With the new players, those who are coming back from injury, and the new head coach, slowly we’re going to be feeling better and better. Personally I really want to keep going - we’re in the semi-finals, hopefully we can go all the way.”

Having eased past Charlotte FC, Inter Miami CF will now be facing the Philadelphia Union, who overcame Club Querétaro in a hard-fought tie on Friday.
