LA Galaxy and Club León will meet on July 26 at Dignity Health Sports Park as part of Leagues Cup West 3 group play, which also includes the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Club León will be looking to win Leagues Cup for a second time after winning the competition in 2021 by defeating Seattle Sounders. Additionally, LIGA MX side Club León could win their second international trophy this year after defeating Los Angeles Football Club in the Scotiabank 2023 Concacaf Champions League. In their first match of the tournament, they beat hosts Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a penalty shootout that finished 16-15.
As for the LA Galaxy, Leagues Cup 2023 allows them to salvage their 2023 MLS season with a trophy. The club is currently second bottom of the Western Conference standings in 13th place and seven points out of a play-in spot ahead of this, their first match of the tournament.
What teams are Group West 3?
In addition to the LA Galaxy and Club León, Group West 3 has another MLS team, but they're north of the United States border in the form of Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The team led by Vanni Sartini is currently in seventh place and will look to fend off teams below them to ensure they have a shot at postseason soccer.
