The Timbers face The Earthquakes in the first of three group stage matches that make up the West 1 pool. The Oregon outfit will be looking to put aside their MLS struggles, having won just five of their 22 games in the Western Conference so far. Things are looking better for San Jose, though, who sit in fifth place and are in line for a spot in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, led by top scorer Cristian Espinoza. The California side are enjoying a bounce-back season, having finished bottom of the West in 2022. When the two sides met at the start of June in San Jose, a tightly-contested encounter ended in a goalless draw.
Which teams make up the West 1 group?
The two MLS sides will be joined in their group by LIGA MX outfit Club Tigres, who were crowned champions of the Torneo Clausura this past season. An impressive feat, given they only finished in seventh place in the regular season. The Monterrey-based team, led by star striker André-Pierre Gignac, will travel to Providence Park to take on Portland Timbers on July 26. They then travel south four days later to take on San Jose at PayPal Park for the final West 1 group game.

The match between the two domestic rivals will take place on July 23 at Providence Park, kicking off at 11:00 pm ET and 9 pm in Mexico City. The game will be broadcast on Apple TV+ in the United States and Mexico.
