We are just a few days away from the start of Leagues Cup 2023. Both Major League Soccer and LIGA MX are heading to a break ahead of the tournament, and here's our recap of what happened on Matchday 3 of the 2023 Apetura.
Club Santos Laguna 0-0 Atlas FC
In this encounter, neither team could break down the opposition. Los Rojinegros head into Leagues Cup in seventh place, while the hosts are in tenth.
Chivas de Guadalajara 2-0 Club Necaxa
It's been a great start to the Apertura for Los Rojiblancos. They have three wins from three, are top of the table and will start Leagues Cup 2023 at a high level thanks to Fernando Beltrán and Juan Jesús Brigido having scored to defeat Necaxa.
Mazatlán FC 0-3 CF Monterrey
With this win, Rayados are one of two teams with seven points to date. This comfortable win saw them score all three goals in the second half as Mazatlán were playing with ten men from the 16th minute.
Club Tijuana 2-1 Cruz Azul
Jesús Corona was reunited with Cruz Azul, now wearing new colors. Despite the fact that they went behind after a goal from Nacho Rivero, they hosts managed to get all three points after an own goal by Diber Cambindo in the match's final minutes.
Atlético San Luis 4-1 Club Querétaro
Los Potosinos had a great afternoon at the Alfonso Lastras and got their first win of the tournament. Ricardo Chávez, Vitinho, Unai Bilbao and Julio César Domínguez scored the goals for the hosts in an impressive win.
Club América 3-0 Club Puebla
It was a spectacular debut for Julián Quiñones with the Águilas. The forward scored and connected with the fans, to help his team to its first victory of the 2023 Apertura.
Club Tigres 1-0 Club León
The reigning champions remain unbeaten ahead of Leagues Cup 2023, although it wasn't easy. André-Pierre Gignac was the scorer of the game's only goal as they enter Leagues Cup in fine form.
Toluca FC 2-4 FC Juárez
The visitors are in top form, and they proved it with a win in Toluca. They beat América on matchday one, then drew against Tigres and now they have added three points in a place as difficult to go to as Toluca.
Club Pachuca 1-1 Pumas
This was a match that always brings back many memories of classic matches between the two teams. Gustavo del Prete scored for UNAM while an own goal by Nathan Silva would earn the locals a tie.
