The moment has arrived. Eight teams will play this weekend for the last four places in the Liguilla in four playoff matches. Here’s our preview of the matches that will take place this weekend in Liga MX.
Cruz Azul vs. Atlas
This match is between the eighth and ninth place sides from the 2023 Clausura. La Máquina experienced many ups and downs during the season, but they managed to have a good run-in, despite defeats in recent matches. Los Rojinegros experienced something similar, riding a six-match unbeaten run to their final place in the table.
Pachuca vs. Santos
Los Tuzos are the best-ranked side in these play-in games. At the beginning of the Clausura, they were in the top few places, but they had several painful defeats in the run-in that cost them direct qualification for the Liguilla. Los Guerreros, for their part, won five games and had eight losses, two of them in their last two matches.
Leon vs. Atlético de San Luis
This match pits sixth against the eleventh-placed side. The hosts are coming off a very important victory against Tigres, 3-0, in which they demonstrated their potential, while Los Potosinos have gone two games without winning.
Tigres vs. Puebla
The time has come to demonstrate their potential on the part of the hosts. They are coming off losing in the semifinals of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League against León, in addition to losing 3-0 to them on the last day of the 2023 Clausura. La Franja, for their part, won 5-2 against Los Xolos, and lost to this same Tigres side, 1-0, on April 20.
