After a spectacular set of quarterfinals here’s what awaits us in the Liga MX semifinals. The four ties of the quarterfinals were filled with emotion and now we will have a pair of Clásicos in the semifinals. In the Nacional, América will finish at home against Chivas and in the Regio, Monterrey will have the second leg at home at the BBVA Stadium against Tigres. Here’s our recap of the quarterfinals.
Monterrey 2-0 Santos
In the first leg, no team was able to get on the scoresheet, but in the second leg everything changed. Los Rayados showed their ability with goals from Rogelio Funes Mori and Maxi Meza. Their reward will be the Clásico Regio in the semifinals.
América 4-3 Atlético de San Luis
What a tie this was! After a resounding 3-1 win in the first leg in favor of the Águilas, Atlético traveled to the capital and were close to pulling a surprise result. This was before a late goal by Brian Rodríguez, on 88 minutes, put the Azulcremas into the semifinals.
Toluca 4-5 Tigres
This was another thrilling tie, one that was full of goals. Robert Dante Siboldi's men seemed to have things under control after a 4-1 first leg win. However, Los Diablos left everything on the pitch and for a moment they were close to a place in the semifinals, but a goal by Sebastián Córdova would see them knocked out.
Chivas 1-1 Atlas
It was a tense end to the tie at the Estadio Akron. Los Rojiblancos had to push hard, but the support of their fans kept them going. Gilberto Sepúlveda scored a goal from a corner kick to put them in the semifinals, giving us a mouthwatering Clásico Nacional in the semifinals.
