Los Angeles Galaxy in Leagues Cup: the young prospect and the star to follow

GalaxyLA

Los Angeles Galaxy were founded in 1994 as one of the charter clubs of MLS. They have won five MLS Cups, more than any other team in MLS history. The Galaxy have also won the Supporters' Shield three times, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup five times, and the CONCACAF Champions League once.

The Galaxy is a popular and successful club that can boast to have had some of the best players in MLS history, like Landon Donavan, Robbie Keane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, and David Beckham. They’re currently in 13th place in the Western Conference, having scored only 23 goals for and conceding 33 (the second highest in the conference).

Galaxy will form part of the group, West 3, along with Club León and Vancouver Whitecaps. Their first match will be on July 25 against León at Dignity Health Sports Park at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Riqui Puig: The new hope

He began his career at La Masia, FC Barcelona's famous youth academy, where he made his professional debut for the club in 2018. In July 2022, he joined Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy on a free transfer.

Puig has always been a talented midfielder with good dribbling skills, vision, and passing ability. His problem at Barca was that there were so many talented midfielders ahead of him. Now with the Galaxy he’s showing exactly how important he can be to a side that plays around him, especially with teammate “Chicharito” out. He’s played almost every match so far and has 3 goals and 3 assists.

Efrain Alvarez: LA, born and bred

The Los Angeles born winger began his career with LA Galaxy's youth academy, and he made his professional debut for the club in 2019. Given the fact he’s been hyped for years, more has been expected from the 21-year-old.

Alvarez is a versatile player who can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder. At this stage in his career, he’s a rotational starter for the Galaxy, but they want him to push to be a regular in the XI. Each following season he’s put up better numbers but those numbers are still not enough and there’s hope that this is the year that he really steps it up.
