Matchday 5 of Leagues Cup 2023: Who’s playing?

DAY 5

Matchday 5 of Leagues Cup 2023 kicks off July 26, and during the night we will have the largest number of matches in one day so far with seven clashes. Who will be involved? Find out all the details below.

DAY5 2

NEW YORK CITY FOOTBALL CLUB VS. TORONTO FC

  • DATE: July 26
  • STADIUM: Red Bull Arena
  • GROUP: East 3
  • TIME: 19:30 hrs. ET / 17:30 hrs. CDMX

This is a do-or-die game for NYCFC after losing their first match against Atlas FC 1-0. So this is their last chance to try to get the three points and have a hope of advancing to the next round.

Toronto FC will be making their debut in Leagues Cup 2023, but the outlook does not look hopeful at all, as they have gone 9 consecutive matches without a win. We have already seen other teams that are not doing well in their leagues turn around their performances in this Leagues Cup. Will Toronto be one of them?

DAY5 3

ATLÉTICO SAN LUIS VS. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

  • DATE: July 26
  • STADIUM: Gillette Stadium
  • GROUP: East 4
  • TIME: 19:30 hrs. ET / 17:30 hrs. CDMX

Atlético San Luis will make their first appearances in this Leagues Cup today. They are in high spirits after defeating Querétaro 4-1 in their last match. They are starting to adapt to the style of their new coach and it shows on the field.

New England Revolution started their Leagues Cup tournament on the wrong foot, failing to score a goal in the first 90 minutes against the New York Red Bulls last Saturday. They were beaten on penalties by the team from the Big Apple. If they fail to beat St. Louis today, they will be saying goodbye to the tournament tonight.

DAY5 4

PHILADELPHIA UNION VS. CLUB QUERETARO

  • DATE: July 26
  • STADIUM: Subaru Park
  • GROUP: East 1
  • TIME: 19:30 hrs. ET / 17:30 hrs. CDMX

Philadelphia Union will approach this match with confidence as they have won 3 consecutive matches, including their debut in this Leagues Cup in which they managed to win 3-1 against Xolos de Tijuana. A win assures them of a place in the next round.

Club Querétaro will be making their first appearance in this Leagues Cup against one of the teams in the best form at the moment. They arrived with some doubts since the beginning of the LIGA MX season and have not been the best after coming off a 1-4 loss against Atlético San Luis.

DAY5 5

CF MONTREAL VS. D.C. UNITED

  • DATE: July 26
  • STADIUM: Saputo Stadum
  • GROUP: East 2
  • TIME: 19:30 hrs. ET / 17:30 hrs. CDMX

CF Montreal's start to the Leagues Cup was stunned by Pumas, who were able to tie the match late in the day. The Canadian team had a comfortable lead, but the team from the Mexican capital pulled them level in the last minute of the match. Fortunately, they were able to get back on track from the eleven penalty kicks and were able to take the victory.

The team led by Wayne Rooney has had many ups and downs in its last 3 matches. If we look at the results we can find a painful 0-4 loss against the New England Revolution, a draw with Inter Miami CF and a win against FC Dallas. What kind of team will show up for Rooney? We will find out tonight.

DAY5 6

CF MONTERREY VS. REAL SALT LAKE

  • DATE: July 26
  • STADIUM: America First Field
  • GROUP: West 2
  • TIME: 21:30 hrs. ET / 19:30 hrs. CDMX

Rayados are still undefeated this season and it is obvious that they will want to continue with this positive streak of results in their performances during this Leagues Cup. There is no doubt that on paper they are one of the favorite Mexican teams to win the championship, especially now that they have added the Spanish player Sergio Canales to their ranks.

Real Salt Lake only needs to win this game to advance to the next round, since in their first game of this Leagues Cup they defeated the Seattle Sounders with authority. The final score was 3-0.

Day4 - 6

LA GALAXY VS. CLUB LEÓN

  • DATE: 07/26
  • STADIUM: Dignity Health Sports Park
  • GROUP: West 3
  • TIME: 22:30 hrs. ET / 20:30 hrs. CDMX

Let's remember that this match was scheduled for 7/25, but a mechanical failure in the plane in which Club León was being transported prevented the match from taking place in a timely manner.

The final match of the night will give us the LA Galaxy's debut in Leagues Cup 2023. The team has everyone on tenterhooks, because the soccer they have played this season has left much to be desired. At the moment they are in second to last place in the MLS Western Conference. But everything can change in this tournament, as we have seen with other teams like Inter Miami CF or Mazatlan FC, who are not at the top of their leagues, but in this Leagues Cup they have started off on the right foot.

Club León comes into this match with the satisfaction of having been the winner at the start of the Leagues Cup. It also arrives with tired legs after having been the protagonist in the longest penalty shootout in the history of the tournament and also of MLS. Even so, they will be looking to secure their place in the next round.

DAY5 7

CLUB TIGRES VS: PORTLAND TIMBERS

  • DATE: 07/26
  • STADIUM: Providence Park
  • GROUP: West 1
  • TIME: 23:00 hrs. ET / 21:00 hrs. CDMX

The time has come for the debut of the reigning champion of Mexican soccer. Club Tigres come into this Leagues Cup wanting to continue winning trophies for their trophy cabinet. Portland Timbers, on the other hand, only need to win this match to advance to the next stage of the tournament.
