Both Mazatlán FC and FC Juárez will be looking to put a poor LIGA MX Clausura 2023 campaign behind them when they take to the field for this summer’s Leagues Cup. Mazatlán FC are coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Austin FC on Friday, and currently top the group, while FC Juárez are yet to play.
The two sides finished in 16th and 18th place respectively in domestic play, although they have started the new season unbeaten so far. They will face off on July 25 as part of their group stage campaign - as part of **South 1** - and both sides will be taking part in the competition for the first time this year. In their last meeting, it was visitors FC Juárez who came out on top, securing a 3-2 win against the run of play.
Which teams make up the South 1 group?
The two LIGA MX strugglers feature in South 1, one of only two pools in the 2023 Leagues Cup which are made up of two Mexican teams. The remaining spot in the group is filled by Austin FC, who are also welcoming all three group games in their Q2 Stadium home ground. Mazatlán FC beat the hosts in their opening game on July 21, 3-1 while FC Juárez play the MLS side for the final match of the group on July 29.
