When Lionel Messi’s arrival to Major League Soccer was first announced, American soccer fans across the country were understandably excited. Some of them, however, may not have realized that it was going to take some time for the GOAT to play in an MLS match
The Philadelphia Union were the first club to host Inter Miami CF following the Messi announcement. And an overzealous fan went viral for his sign at the match proclaiming “I traveled 1,200 miles to see the ⚽️🐐”
The Union had fun with the clip, tweeting it out with the caption “Big Yikes. Safe Flight Back!”
Fast forward a month and a half later and the young fan will have another chance to see Messi.
Following Inter Miami’s 4-0 win over Charlotte FC and Philadelphia Union’s 2-1 win over Querétaro, the two clubs will meet again in Philly, this time with the GOAT in the building.
The Union even remembered to poke fun of the fan again on Twitter, retweeting their original post with the caption “Here’s Your shot at redemption 👀 Safe travels!”
