After being subbed into the match in the second half, Messi scored a game-winning free kick at the end of the match to seal three points for the club. A win tonight, and Inter Miami CF moves on to the knockout round of the Leagues Cup 2023.
Head coach Tata Martino also confirmed that Messi will be the new captain of Inter Miami CF, news could precede his first start with the MLS club.
With so much excitement surrounding Messi’s potential second appearance with his new MLS club, it’s no surprise he’s inviting as many people as possible to watch him.
Ahead of Inter Miami CF’s Leagues Cup 2023 match with Atlanta United, Messi promoted it on his Instagram stories.

On the field, Messi will be sharing a pitch again with his national team teammate Thiago Almada, a regular starter for Atlanta United.
On the sidelines, Inter Miami CF manager Tata Martino will square off against his former squad. It will be the first time Martino has been on the opposite touchline against the club he won an MLS title with in 2018.
