Pumas: One star and young talent to follow in Leagues Cup 2023

Pumas

That last two seasons have been awful for Pumas. The cub has failed to even make it to the reclassification round of the LIGA MX postseason. A tough task when you consider the final spot is 13th in a table of 18 clubs. But fans of the club hope the arrival of new coach Antonio Mohamed is what Pumas needs to turn things around.

Mohamed is no stranger to LIGA MX, having won LIGA MX titles with Tijuana, America, and Monterrey. He’s also won a Copa Sudamericana with Independiente, and two titles (Supercopa do Brasil and Campeonato Mineiro) with Atletico Mineiro. So, Mohamed is no stranger to winning championships.

With Pumas off to a good start in Apertura 2023 (1-2-0), Pumas could be more dangerous than they’re given credit for in Leagues Cup 2023.

Juan Ignacio Dinenno, the Argentine artilleryman

The striker joined the team in January 2020 from Deportivo Cali in Colombia and since then he has become an indisputable anchor for the Pumas attack. In his time with the club, he’s  led the team to a LIGA MX and CONCACAF Cup final.Unfortunately he and his teammates fell short both times.

Coming into the Leagues Cup 2023, Dinenno has tallied 56 goals in 128 appearances across all competitions for Pumas. With a new coach at the helm, the title drought for Pumas could finally end.

César Huerta, the jewel of Pumas

The 23-year-old is one of the most decisive pieces for Antonio Mohamed for the second part of 2023, so he closed any possibility of an exit on the transfer market. Both his speed and decision in attack are capable of opening locked games when least expected.
