South 3: Who’s playing, fixtures and top players to follow

Leagues Cup 2023 will kick off on July 21, in a tournament which sees all 47 teams from Major League Soccer and Liga MX face off across 77 games.

Over a full month, the participating teams will play in an expanded edition of the tournament across 28 stadiums located in the United States and Canada. The clubs have been divided into 15 groups of three participants each distributed based on their performance in their respective leagues in 2022.

The top two teams from each group will earn a place in the Round of 32.

This is where Club Pachuca and Los Angeles Football Club will be waiting, by virtue of being last season’s champions in MLS and Liga MX respectively. The knockout rounds will conclude with the final on August 19.

HOW WERE THE GROUPS SELECTED IN LEAGUES CUP 2023?

From second to 16th in MLS, they were distributed one per group in descending order. For the teams who finished second to 16th in Liga MX, they were seeded in reverse order. The remaining 13 clubs from MLS and Liga MX were drawn to complete the groups on a geographical basis.
