The streak Inter Miami CF hasn’t had in two years

Inter Miami CF celebrate after midfielder David Ruiz (41) scored a goal against the Philadelphia Union during the second half at Subaru Park

Inter Miami CF’s current form in Leagues Cup 2023 makes them a favorite to win the title. The club made its tournament debut with a new team and has been coming together over the course of six matches without a loss. It’s a streak the club hasn’t had in two years.

The team’s chemistry can be seen through the club’s six matches. Prior to the tournament, Inter Miami was last in the MLS Eastern Conference. But reinforcements arrived ahead of the tournament, not just on the bend with Gerado “Tata” Martino, but also with Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba among others.

With the club’s core set, and the addition of top individual players, the team’s performance improved almost immediately to start the tournament.

Of the club’s six matches, only one of them have ended in a draw after regulation, a 4-4 battle with FC Dallas. The other five matches were all wins, with Inter Miami scoring four goals in three of those matches. They had a 4-0 win in the the group stage against Atlanta United and another 4-0 win over Charlotte FC in the quarterfinals. Then the club thrashed the Philadelphia Union 4-1 in the semifinals.

The last time Inter Miami went six straight matches without a loss was two years ago, in August 2021 when they beat Chicago Fire 3-2 (08/18/2021), Toronto FC 3-1 (08/21 /2021), drew 0-0 against Orlando City (08/27/2021), beat FC Cincinnati 1-0 (09/4/2021) and did the same and with the same result against Columbus Crew (on 09/11/ 2021) and Toronto FC (08/14/2021).

Inter Miami has been able to use Leagues Cup 2023 to change their club dynamics and improve their season. Whether they win the tournament or not, the club has already clinched a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and setting themselves up nicely for a playoff push in the regular season.
