Toluca FC will be aiming to continue their perfect record at Leagues Cup 2023 on Friday night as they travel to face **Sporting Kansas City** for a spot in the competition’s Round of 16.
The ten-time LIGA MX champions were the joint-top scorers in the competition’s group stage, having beaten Nashville SC 4-3 in their opening game, and then seeing off the Colorado Rapids 4-1 in their following fixture.
The MLS outfit, meanwhile, fell to a penalty shoot-out defeat against Minnesota United FC in their first match, after their opponents had leveled the game up to 3-3 with a dramatic 98th-minute equalizer. A win in their next match-up, against Chivas de Guadalajara, sealed their spot in the knockouts as runners-up of the Central 3 group.
For Toluca, the aim will be to bolster the ranks of LIGA MX teams in the round of 16 of Leagues Cup - with only one Mexican team, Club Querétaro, having qualified before Friday night’s games. Whoever comes out on top in Kansas City will go on to face the winner of the clash between Columbus Crew and Minnesota United FC.
