Leagues Cup 2023 is set to kick off on July 21, seeing all 47 teams from Liga MX and Major League Soccer face off across 77 games, taking the annual competition between the two leagues to a new level.
The expanded edition will run for a full month, until the final on August 19, with 28 venues across the United States and Canada hosting games.
Teams have been divided into 15 groups of three teams each, with the clubs allocated their spots based on their position in their respective leagues. The first two in each group will advance to the Round of 32. Penalty shoot-outs will be used as a possible tie-breaker between two teams.
Both Los Angeles Football Club and Club Pachuca have already sealed their spot in the Round of 32, by virtue of being the last season’s champions in MLS and Liga MX respectively.
One group to keep an eye on in particular will be West 3, which includes a five-time MLS Cup winner, the CONCACAF Champions Cup holders, and a major player from Canadian soccer.
