With an un-defendable Messi, Inter Miami CF welcomes Orlando City for Leagues Cup Round of 32

Inter Miami CF and Orlando City star in one of the most intriguing matchups of the Leagues Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday, August 2 at DRV PNK Stadium. 

The in-state rivals will write a new chapter of their rivalry in just the second time te two clubs have faced off in an elimination match (Inter Miami beat Orlando City SC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 last season)

Since the arrival of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, Inter Miami CF’s form has taken a complete 180° from being one of the worst teams in Major League Soccer to being one of the favorites to win this tournament. All due to the acquisition of two worldwide talents.

Inter Miami began the tournament with a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul thanks to a game-winning free kick from Messi. In their second match, they thrashed Atlanta United, 4-1, led by Messi’s two goals and an assist. The two wins helped the team win South Group 3.

On the other side of the rivalry, Óscar Pareja’s squad will try to be the club to deliver Miami a big blow and move on in the tournament. Despite a difficult road to the round of 32, decisive players like Duncan McGuire and Facundo Torres have played well in this tournament.

Orlando City opened their tournament with a 1-1 draw followed by a penalty shootout win over the Houston Dynamo. They then defeated Santos Laguna 3-2 to win South Group 2.

The winner of this match will take on the winner of Mazatlán FC-FC Dallas in the next round.
