Rogelio Funes Mori was the star of the matchday for CF Monterrey, as he scored the winning goal in the 3-2 win over Los Angeles FC to send his team through to the Leagues Cup 2023 semi-finals.
The forward had been criticized for his recent downturn in form, but once again showed why he’s the club’s all-time top scorer, having made the most of his opportunity to start the match after injuries to Germán Berterame and Rodrigo Aguirre.
“We always believed in ourselves, we didn’t deserve to go 2-0 down in the first half. I think we had a good first half, but we weren’t clinical enough. The team kept believing, and the truth is that we really gave it our all”, he told TUDN after the win.
Funes Mori also highlighted the team’s work ethic and their never-say-die attitude: “We always go for it. If we have to die, we’ll die on our feet. This team has been giving everything, you can see it day by day, we never give up, I am very proud of everyone.”
A unique record for Funes Mori with Rayados
With his goal against LAFC, the striker became the club's first player to score in all competitions: Liga MX, Copa MX, CONCACAF Champions League, Club World Cup and Leagues Cup.
Since arriving in 2015, Funes Mori has become a club legend, scoring a total of 154 goals and winning five titles with CF Monterrey.
