Martino on Messi: "Everything is given for him to write a new film"

After Inter Miami CF's agonizing 2-1 win over Cruz Azul at the start of Leagues Cup 2023 thanks to a great goal from Lionel Messi, Gerardo Martino spoke about the kick that gave his team a win.

"It seems like everything is given for Messi to write a new film," said Tata about the magical free kick of the "10" that got into the corner of the goal defended by Andrés Gudiño. He continued: "When he received the foul there we already began to think that the film could be written and what was said."

Regarding the performance shown by his coaches against Cruz Azul, he analyzed: "In the match, from my point of view, we were outplayed in the first half. We had very few control passages and they attacked us quickly and well. Circumstantially we were gaining this time but we shouldn't have".

He continued: "I feel that in the second we played much more evenly, we gave them less space and created goal chances. On the last play, it really seems like everything is given for him (Messi) to write a new movie."

Martino stated that there was already a special climate in the stadium when the Argentine took the ball to take the free kick in the last play of the game: "There was a whole energy for this to happen, there was not a special minute, but it happened to give it more drama in the last minute of the game.”

"We all know what happens when there is a free kick in that area and Messi is wearing the shirt of the team that received the foul," he concluded.
