A year since these two clubs met in the Campeones Cup, New York City FC and Atlas FC will meet again in Leagues Cup 2023. This time neither team is coming into the match as the defending champion of their respective league. New York City FC went unbeaten in eight of its last nine matches, which sounds impressive until you learn that seven of those eight results were draws. Atlas FC went 1-1-1 in its first three matches of the new season.
East Group 3: What’s at stake?
No one in this group is coming into Leagues Cup 2023 as a favorite to lift the final trophy. Atlas did play well enough to qualify for the Liguilla in the 2023 Clausura (a run that ended in the quarterfinals). New York City FC and Toronto FC are former MLS Cup winners, but both have been mired in poor play during the 2023 season. Getting out of the group stage will be welcomed for the two teams that do it, but this group may likely be forgotten very quickly.

The clubs will kickoff on Sunday, July 23, in New York City, starting at 7:00 pm ET (5:00 p.m. in Mexico City). The game will be broadcast on Apple TV+ in the United States and Mexico.
